Handmade in Nicola Gillis’s garden studio in Brighton, this versatile stoneware bowl is wheel-thrown from an iron-rich, flecked clay and finished with Nicola’s distinctive ash wood glaze and abstract black oxide marks.
 
At 19cm in diameter and 4.5cm high, it’s an everyday bowl designed to move easily between meals – from summer salads and side dishes to hearty winter stews. It’s also a favourite for breakfast, particularly porridge piled high with toppings.
 
The ash wood glaze is made by Nicola using ash collected from her own wood-burning stove over winter, with wood sourced locally in East Sussex. Each piece is individually made and glazed by hand, resulting in subtle variations and irregularities that make every bowl unique.
