Handmade in Nicola Gillis’s garden studio in Brighton, this stoneware mug is wheel-thrown from an iron-rich, flecked clay and finished with Nicola’s distinctive ash wood glaze and abstract black oxide marks.
 
At approximately 7.5cm high and 7.5cm in diameter, it’s an easy everyday mug for coffee, tea or whatever you’re drinking throughout the day. Its simple, gently rounded form and earthy, tactile finish make it a natural fit for everyday use.
 
The ash wood glaze is made by Nicola using ash collected from her own wood-burning stove over winter, with wood sourced locally in East Sussex. Each mug is individually thrown, glazed and marked by hand, resulting in subtle variations and irregularities that make every piece unique.
